The Pentateuch is a study manual, a reference source, and a textbook commentary on the first five books of the Bible. In addition to the detailed commentary, often on a verse-by-verse basis, the book provides an introduction to the Pentateuch as a whole, and to each of the five books.

Previous editions of this work, which has been in continuous print since 1951, have been widely used as textbooks in Christian colleges. This revision is an updated response to the students' expressed interests and concerns.
